Live comments from the CCP Summer Conference 2013

Francisco Marcos (Madrid) discussed the integration of Spanish competition agency with 6 sector regulators and questioned the consequences for competition policy and its effectiveness. Having considered the Dutch v the German model, Spain finally opted for the Dutch model of a single integrated agency. Several issues caused by such integration were highlighted, such as task compatibility of competition and regulation, and the imbalance within the agency between the competition chamber and the regulation chamber dealing with all regulated sector
